A legend brought to life.

The Dream of Leszek the Black is a cinematic 3D animation inspired by one of Lublin’s most enduring legends. The story follows Prince Leszek the Black, who arrives in the devastated city too late to prevent its destruction. Exhausted and overcome by doubt, he falls asleep beneath an oak tree, where Archangel Michael appears to him in a dream. The vision restores his courage and sends him back into battle with a promise of victory.

The project was conceived as a complete multimedia experience rather than a conventional film. The animation unfolds simultaneously across two panoramic screens positioned beneath the wings of a monumental Archangel sculpture. Each screen presents a different part of the action, while projection mapping, light, music and environmental sound extend the story into the physical exhibition space. Historical inspiration is combined with fantasy, dynamic battle sequences and moments of humour, creating an accessible and visually engaging interpretation of the legend for contemporary audiences.

A story beyond the screen

The experience was designed specifically for a multimedia installation combining two panoramic screens with a central sculpture of Archangel Michael. Rather than repeating the same image, both screens reveal complementary parts of the action, allowing the story to unfold across the entire space. Projection mapping brings the sculpture into the narrative through light, glowing wings and animated details, while music and sound connect every visual element into one continuous experience. The result is a film that does not remain contained within a single frame, but expands into the architecture around the audience.
